Help Bob Schimmel’s Kids

When Robert Schimmel died on September 3rd he was no longer able to work due to end stage liver disease – and he was broke. It wasn’t until after he died that I found out he was literally selling the clothes off of his back on ebay. Robert moved home in June to take care of his father after his mother died – and to have his father take care of him. But he was always there for his kids. That was true even on August 26th when he promised to take them to dinner. He felt too ill to go but he didn’t not want to disappoint the boys. So Aliyah offered to drive him that fateful night of their terrible accident.
On that night he took the kids to Island’s for dinner and danced for his three kids in the parking lot wearing a fedora and bandanna, those are the last pictures we have of him.
After dropping off his two younger kids Max and Sam home safely. Aliyah, Robert and Jacob were heading home when the fatal crash happened. The accident critically injured Aliyah, 19, eventually killed Robert and injured Jacob,11, who never lost consciousness and felt for his father’s pulse before escaping out a window.
Their car rolled countless times off of the freeway and into an embankment. His last words were “wow” as he realized the impending crash. Aliyah doesn’t remember a thing – but it will take her a year to recover from the brain injuries according to her doctors.
On September 3rd Robert, 60 years old, was taken off life support and died around 8:30pm. Leaving three little boys and two big girls without a dad, a granddaughter without a grandpa and the world without brilliant comedy and the most generous heart. His son Derek had already passed in 1992 from Cancer. The guy who survived Cancer, a heart attack and countless other medical problems died in an unexpected car accident.
If you would like to donate. And any help would be so appreciated you can donate in two ways.

The funds will be used to help Aliyah and Jacob recover. Melissa has decided to do her own fund raising for Sam and Max at a benefit in Arizona.
Thank You,
The Schimmel Family

Jess, very heartfelt. Check the Zip Code on the address as it’s my zip, and definitely not Scottsdale. Good luck with the endeavor.

It’s sad that some sort of family politics has prevented a proper fundraiser FOR everyone in the family hurt by this loss.

Jess, it just occurred to me that you might want to set up a PO Box for this, especially since it’s being sent out over so many different places on the net. Having the street address on here might not be a good idea. Too many strange people in the world. I’ll be happy to help you in any way I can. Being the eldest can be such a burden — believe me, I know. Call me any time at 602.284.5908 if you need help with things.

Get a hold of Howard Stern. He loved your father and will help. I am sure of it. If I had any money during these hard times I would but all I can offer is my brain and I just used it for you. Howard, Robin and Fred should be able to raise quite a few bucks. Good luck.

Hey Jess,
First of all I am so sorry for your loss. When I heard of him passing away I was deeply affected and I still can’t believe he’s gone.
I want to help pass this blog along, can you verify that this is definitely a legit blog so that we know the money is going to his family? Maybe if you could post the link on his facebook account that would be definite proof since no one else would have access to his FB account.
Please if you can do this i’ll try to pass this along to as many people as possible and hopefully people will open their hearts and give.
thanks – Matt

Bob was my absolute favorite. For 20 plus years he made me smile. Just tonight, on Raw Dog (sirius radio) I listened to his bit on colonoscopy and catheters. I was driving in my car and literally laughing out loud. It seemed like he never caught a fair break. His genius will be deeply missed.
I will post this site on my Facebook page, and stop by the bank tomorrow to help a little.
Be strong,
Doug

Shortly after this page went up, your uncle went with this on his Facebook page, and this donation page is mentioned specifically in the comments below the post. Why would Jeff be attempting to sabotage your efforts, Jessica? It doesn’t make sense? Please help us out here.
Jeff Schimmel :FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES: PLEASE DO NOT DONATE MONEY TO ANY FUND THAT CLAIMS TO BE RAISING MONEY FOR MY FAMILY MEMBERS, REGARDLESS OF WHO IS BEHIND IT.

This is a beautiful tribute to your father, and very well written. It gives me an insight to a man I knew through my father and through your grandfather. It makes him even more special to me and I am touched by what you have created here. You are all in my prayers, and of course, I am honored to donate, not just in Bob’s memory, but in his future; his beautiful, blessed children. You Dad would be proud. In fact, I’m sure he is.

he adored his kids.
the last thing he did was have dinner with his kids.
they were everything to him

I met your father. I know your grandfather and speak to him often. I am filled with sorrow for your Dad’s struggle, and yet thrilled at all he’d accomplished; his best achievement being his loving family. I am placing a link to this website on my own, a comedy blog called TwistedMysteryWriter.com. I think your Dad would have enjoyed my satirical style. (It’s not for everyone!) I will encourage my readers to help. I will pass the link around to family and friends as well. I wish I could help even more. God bless you all. I cannot imagine your pain. :***( Through this website, I pray some peace and happiness is brought to you. With much love and many prayers…

I once cracked a rib laughing at Bob at The Improv in West Palm Beach, FL! I had been in a rollover accident that day caused by a retired person (arghh). They cut me off on I-95 and I had to drive into the median where my van rolled a few times. They drove away probably oblivious to the near death situation (besides their own) they caused! Luckily, my seat belt was on and I survived! Also luckily I had tix to see Bob that night! It was a great way to forget about the bad day! The only victim was my rib (and my van) which apparently was partially cracked by the accident! It fully cracked while I was laughing at Bob! The show was so good I didn’t want to leave! (every laugh hurt, but it was worth it) Humor was a natural pain killer! Rest in Peace!
